Because We're Dead
Charles and Rebecca are Slow Club. Aurally, they’re a one man band kind of affair. Except with two people. As their debut single for Moshi Moshi Singles Because We’re Dead suggests, rockabilly, folk and country all find some kind of place in their very long list of influences.
Though the twosome have their stripped down and delicate moments (as on the single’s stupidly pretty, finger-picked B side ‘Sunday’), they possess a quite frankly mega rhythm section. Despite their youthful years, these guys aren’t your usual angst-ridden teen musicians - they didn’t have difficult childhoods and they’re not out to express their displeasure with the world. So contrary to the tempo their name perhaps suggests, Slow Club are overwhelmingly upbeat. They play pretty joyful music for people who like guitars and drums and have an appreciation of classic combinations to dance to.
